[Hcoop-discuss] Web passwords

Recently someone asked why we have separate passwords to log into the 
portal, and I didn't have a good answer.  In the past, our analogous web 
site was not accessible via SSL, so it made sense to use a less valuable 
password.

Does anyone see a reason not to use main login passwords as web 
passwords?  If not, then any suggestions of the easiest way to get 
Apache to use /etc/passwd or equivalent?
