Still curious about this case.  The "dnsDefault" directive generates
an "A" record for the top-level domain; is there a version of this
directive that generates a "CNAME" record instead?

Excellent.

Domtool appears to have signed off on ~megacz/.domtool/megacz.com, and
the AFSDB records are working, but for some reason my SRV and TXT
records do not seem to be served:
