I like this design. Maybe we should do some A/B testing with the "join
or die" graphic (;

I think a lighter background would make the text more readable,
especially if you end up taking the main content out of the white box. I
changed the background of the redesigned portal to #DFEFDF -- you could
use that if it works, or else I'll change the portal to match the main
site.

I like the sliding effect, but I'd find it less distracting if it didn't
happen automatically.

Lucida is non-free and isn't available on many GNU/Linux systems. Is
there a free alternative that could be embedded with @font-face?

Also, I like the "hcoop" graphic, but HCoop has so far always described
itself as "The Internet Hosting Cooperative," not just as a Web hosting
cooperative. WDYT about changing the text to just "the hosting
cooperative" or similar? That should still fit next to the "p".
