I read that, but to be honest I didn't understand it.  I changed my
~/.ssh/config to include this

    Host mire
      GSSAPIAuthentication yes
      HostName mire.hcoop.net
      User offby1


and then tried 'ssh mire', but that prompted me for a password as usual.
