[Hcoop-discuss] Next steps for HCoop

I think we've reached a good point where we're stable at our current
level of services, so what better time to start planning for expanding
services and reducing stability? :-)

I've edited this page with some ideas:
    http://wiki.hcoop.net/wiki/ColocationPlans
about what we should aim for during our next server expansion. Would
anyone like to share any other wishes for improvements to our services,
alternate suggestions for what our next hosting set-up should look like,
or anything in that vein?

Naturally, more stuff means more money, so it's important for us to find
more members to lower the cost per person. If future members have the
same average resource usage of current members, then it looks like we
can support about 3 times more, which would be an increase to about 200
members from 50. If we only consider our current set-up, disk space
seems to be the limiting factor. Both CPU load and bandwidth usage seem
to be low enough now that we could definitely take a factor-of-four
increase in both.

That leaves the question of how we are going to find these new members.
It's always seemed to me that HCoop is something that huge numbers of
geeks would find very attractive, and it's just a matter of tipping them
off to its existence. Does anyone have suggestions for lucrative ways
to spread the word?

It also seems important to figure out how much we expect our next
hosting set-up to cost, as well as how many members we want to have
before switching to it. Thoughts?

We had an above-average amount of participation from members in the
logo/site design activity recently, but I still feel like I'm doing too
much of the work here. I hope that other people can step up and take
charge of some of the issues that I've raised here.
