Adam, I hope this answers your question of "why would a backup MX
ever be useful" :)
Another important thing to do is more fine-grained partitioning,
e.g. have /var/log, /var/spool, and /var/cache all be their own
partitions. /var/tmp is also important in case any user uses it.
(I have 27 partitions on my machine :) This kind of repartitioning
would be very easy using LVM and EVMS.
