I'm presently traveling from FL to MA for summer but have been reading msgs about this topic when possible...here's my situation:

I found HCoop via a common member of it and the Perl Monks forum, as i was looking for a web host that would allow me to run my own custom Perl scripts for my site for as low a cost as possible...at that time, my costs per months were in the $3 range, which was ideal since the site is a non-profit site that I take donations to cover the costs for...I was asking $5 a month to sponsor my site which covered Hcoop usual costs, plus GoDaddy for registration plus some incidental phone expenses to contact users, and mailing costs...all was well and good.

Then changes at HCoop occured and costs went up by various occasional charges, such as legal...ok, fine...so I raised my "sponsor rate" to $6 with no complaints...but that now barely covers my costs, and some months it doesn't...I have NO issue with $5 HCoop charge right now, and given my elderly user base, I just can't ask them for $10, so I'd be forced to look for another host that supported my needs for $5 or less per month...I don't know if that exists, but I just can't allocate $10 for HCoop per month, or even $7...sorry!
