From wisnesky at math.mit.edu Thu Aug 20 20:09:04 2015 From: wisnesky at math.mit.edu (Ryan Wisnesky) Date: Thu, 20 Aug 2015 20:09:04 -0400 Subject: [Categoricaldata_announce] toward categorical informatics Message-ID: <606412A3-D9EF-4D45-9744-B716CF50C41C@math.mit.edu> Hello everyone, The previous year has seen many exciting developments around the FQL tool, including a proper treatment of null values, user-friendly SQL and FOL-ish syntax, and new connections to operads and relational database theory. Over the next year, the development of FQL will shift from David Spivak's lab at MIT to a new company, Categorical Informatics, Inc. I will be leaving MIT at the end of August to lead the new company, which is initially funded by a grant from the National Institute of Standards and Technology. David and I, and others at MIT and at the new company, will collaborate closely. FQL will continue to be developed under a BSD license, and will continue to serve as a prototype and technology demonstrator. Once features are pioneered in FQL, the company will be concerned with their scalability and practical application. As part of this transition, categoricaldata.net will receive professional (and hopefully, more reliable) web-hosting. It is possible that you may receive additional email in support of migrating the announcement mailing list. Thank you all for your continued interest in FQL and categorical approaches to data management. Ryan Wisnesky
