Today between 2:00-3:00 I passed out 47 leaflets with adverts for the
demonstration on them at the intersection of Broadway and John on
Capitol Hill. Having not done mass work on Capitol Hill for several
months, I found the overall reception to be much cooler than in the
past. (However, I think this is the first time I have been on Capitol
Hill with literature that put Afghanistan front and center. The "good
war" nonsense carries a lot of weight.) But, as always, there were
numerous people who thanked me heartily and were obviously happy that I
was out there. Afterwards I put up 49 of the half-sheet demo
announcements on electrical poles around SCCC, down Pine and then turned
over to Pike right before the I-5 bridge.
I didn't have a copy of the half-sheet thingy so I laid one out and am
attaching it to this email. By the way, I noticed the second sentence
says "escalation has only escalated," which is kind of strange. (But it
didn't seem strange before, for some reason.) I thought about changing
"escalation" to "surge" but didn't want to do so without running it by
the group.

P.S.: I was thinking about the sound system earlier and thought our
Tacoma friends might have some ideas. I don't know what they used to
power that "funk the war" system last spring but it would certainly work
for amplifying speeches. I think we should try to avoid anything
requiring a plugin if we can help it. Too much hassle.
